Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: May 17, 2026. Plain English, no lawyer speak where avoidable.

This policy tells you what's not okay to do with a domain you register through Modusdom, a mailbox we host for you, or any other service we provide. Breaking these rules can result in service suspension, registrar transfer (if required by ICANN), and in serious cases, reporting to law enforcement.

1. What you can't host on a Modusdom-registered domain

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Reported to NCMEC immediately on discovery.
  • Content that promotes or facilitates real-world violence against specific people or groups.
  • Phishing sites — websites designed to steal credentials by impersonating real services.
  • Malware distribution — sites hosting executables, droppers, or trojan installers.
  • Command-and-control infrastructure for botnets or ransomware.
  • Content that infringes intellectual property — we honor DMCA takedown notices.
  • Spam infrastructure — sites used to host bulk-unsolicited-email landing pages or spamvertised redirectors.
  • Doxxing — sites publishing private personal information of individuals without consent.
  • Fraudulent commerce — fake storefronts, gift card scams, romance scams.
  • Sale of regulated goods to jurisdictions where it's illegal (controlled substances, untaxed tobacco, unlicensed firearms).

2. What you can't send from a Modusdom mailbox

  • Bulk unsolicited email (CAN-SPAM violations). All commercial email from our mailboxes must be opt-in and include a working unsubscribe.
  • Phishing attempts.
  • Email containing malware attachments.
  • Sextortion, threats, or harassment campaigns.
  • Any volume that triggers blocklist inclusion of our outbound IPs — even if technically legal — may result in your mailbox being throttled or suspended pending review.

3. Resource abuse

  • Cryptocurrency mining on our hosting infrastructure is not allowed.
  • Don't run high-traffic API services without coordinating with us — shared infrastructure has limits.
  • Don't use our DNS service as a public open resolver.

4. Reporting abuse

To report a Modusdom-registered domain being used in violation of this policy, email abuse@modusdom.com. We investigate every report within 24 business hours. Include the URL, what you observed, and any evidence (screenshots, headers).

5. Process when a violation is found

  1. We email the domain registrant with details of the alleged violation and 24-72 hours to respond (timeframe depends on severity).
  2. If the violation is confirmed, content is unpublished or the domain is suspended.
  3. For CSAM, malware, or active phishing, we suspend immediately without notice and report to relevant authorities.
  4. We notify ICANN per the Registrar Accreditation Agreement for any suspension lasting longer than 7 days.
  5. Suspended customers can transfer the domain to another registrar (we don't hold domains hostage), but content must be removed before transfer.

6. Appeals

If you believe a suspension was a mistake, reply to the suspension email with your explanation. A human reads every appeal within 48 business hours.
