Modusdom is a managed domain registrar. We register your domain, set up your email properly so it actually arrives in inboxes, and stay out of the way while you run your business. We focus on small-business owners and professionals who'd rather hand it off than spend an evening reading help docs.
Unlike the big registrars, we don't bombard you with upsells at checkout, don't subscribe you to marketing emails, and don't price-bait-and-switch (low year-one, tripled in year two).

How can we help?
Can't find what you need? Email hello@modusdom.com — a real person replies, usually within hours.
What is Modusdom? Getting started
How does it work, end to end? Getting started
1. Search for your domain at /search.php — we check 10+ endings live.
2. Pick one, optionally add a mailbox at checkout, optionally add setup help.
3. We register the domain in your name (you're the legal owner — you can transfer out anytime).
4. If you bought email, we set up MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC records so your mail lands in inboxes.
5. Everything lives in your account dashboard at /account/ — domains, mailboxes, DNS, billing.

Why not just use GoDaddy? Getting started
You can. We're better for people who want a smaller, more human option. Specifically:
• No checkout upsell maze. We sell what you asked to buy.
• Honest renewal pricing. Year 1 price = Year 2 price.
• A real human answers email — usually the same person each time.
• We handle email deliverability setup for you, not after a help-desk ticket.
• Privacy is free by default; transfer-out is one click.

Which TLD should I pick? Domains & registration
.com is still the default — most familiar, most trusted. Pick .com unless you have a specific reason.
• .io — for developer tools, tech startups (recognizable, slightly premium price)
• .ai — for anything AI-related; high price but signals what you do
• .co — short alternative when .com is taken
• .nyc — proudly local New York City businesses
• .net / .org — classic alternatives
• .shop — retail/e-commerce
• .us — US-only businesses; no WHOIS privacy by registry rule
• .xyz — modern, inexpensive
If in doubt: .com. Always.

What is WHOIS privacy? Domains & registration
When you register a domain, ICANN requires your name, address, email, and phone to be public in the WHOIS directory. WHOIS privacy replaces those with our registrar proxy contact, so the public can't scrape your details.
It's enabled free by default on all TLDs that permit it. The exceptions: .us and .nyc do NOT allow WHOIS privacy by registry rule — your contact info is public for those domains.

Can I move my domain away later? Domains & registration
Yes, anytime. We're not a roach motel.
1. In /account/domain.php → toggle off the Transfer Lock.
2. Click Email EPP code — we send the authorization code to your registrant email.
3. Start the transfer at the receiving registrar.
No penalty, no friction. ICANN requires the domain be at least 60 days post-registration (and 60 days post-prior-transfer).

How many years should I register? Domains & registration
1 year is fine for most people. Going longer doesn't usually save money (price is per-year × years), but it locks in current pricing if you're worried about renewal hikes, and reduces the chance you'll forget to renew.
If the domain is important enough that losing it would hurt, register 5-10 years AND turn on auto-renew. Belt and suspenders.

Should I get a Modusdom mailbox or Google Workspace / Microsoft 365? Email & deliverability
• Modusdom Mailbox — $5/mo. One inbox at your domain. Webmail, IMAP/SMTP, mobile-friendly. Best if you just need email and that's it.
• Google Workspace (Gmail at your domain) — $6/mo per user. Best if you already live in Gmail/Docs/Calendar/Meet.
• Microsoft 365 — $6/mo per user. Best if you already use Outlook/Word/Excel/Teams.
All three give you you@yourdomain.com. We set up DNS deliverability the right way regardless. Pick by ecosystem preference.

Why does my mail go to spam? Email & deliverability
Three things have to be set up correctly:
1. SPF (TXT record) — tells receivers which servers are allowed to send mail from your domain.
2. DKIM (TXT record at a special selector) — cryptographic signature proving the mail wasn't forged.
3. DMARC (TXT at _dmarc) — policy telling receivers what to do if SPF or DKIM fail.
Missing or wrong: mail lands in spam. We set all three correctly when you buy email through us. If you set up email yourself, the most common mistakes are missing DKIM and conflicting SPF records.

How do I edit DNS records? DNS & records
/account/dns.php?d=YOURDOMAIN.COM lets you add, edit, delete A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV records. Changes save instantly and usually propagate within 60 seconds (TTL-dependent).
Not sure what to put? Email hello@modusdom.com — we'll configure it for you.

What are A, MX, TXT records? DNS & records
• A — points your domain to an IPv4 address (your web host). E.g., yourdomain.com → 192.0.2.10.
• AAAA — same but for IPv6.
• CNAME — alias to another domain. E.g., www → yourdomain.com.
• MX — where your email goes. Has a priority (lower = preferred).
• TXT — plain text. Used for SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and verification (Google, Microsoft, etc).
• SRV — service location records (Microsoft 365, SIP).
When in doubt, A + MX + 3 TXTs (SPF/DKIM/DMARC) covers most setups.

When and how am I billed for renewals? Billing & renewals
Domains renew annually on the registration anniversary. With auto-renew ON, we charge your card on file 14 days before expiry and renew the domain immediately on success.
With auto-renew OFF, you'll get a renewal reminder email 30 days out and 7 days out. Click the renew button in your account to renew manually.
We never silently raise prices on renewal. Year-2 = Year-1 for the same TLD.

How do I cancel? Billing & renewals
For monthly mailbox/protection plans: log in → /account/billing.php → cancel button. Service runs until end of paid period, no refund for remaining days.
For domains: domains aren't "cancelled" — they expire if not renewed. Just turn off auto-renew and let them lapse, OR transfer them out (free) to another registrar. We can also delete a domain on request, but ICANN may not refund the registry fee depending on timing.

How do I move a domain TO Modusdom? Transfers & migration
1. At your current registrar: unlock the domain + request the EPP authorization code (also called auth code / transfer code). It's emailed to the registrant address.
2. Email hello@modusdom.com with the domain name + EPP code. We initiate the transfer.
3. You'll get an authorization email from your current registrar — click "Approve."
4. Transfer completes in 5-7 days (ICANN-mandated waiting period).
5. Your domain registration anniversary gets extended by 1 year as part of the transfer.
We don't charge a transfer-in fee for now.

Why do I need to verify my email? Account & security
So we have a confirmed way to reach you about important things: renewal reminders, billing receipts, domain notifications, support replies. If your email isn't verified, those emails may not reach you reliably.
Click the link in the verification email we sent on signup. If you can't find it, /account/resend-verification.php sends a fresh one.
